Crop versus fit
Center crop fills the square and trims the longer sides. Fit preserves the entire image and adds white space where its shape does not match the square. Neither mode stretches the photo.
Pixels do not specify a file-size limit
The output dimensions are exactly 300 by 300 pixels, but its byte size depends on the image. If the destination also limits file size, use an image-size preset afterward and check that its resulting dimensions still meet the requirement.
A few things worth knowing
Will the photo be stretched?
No. Both modes preserve the image's proportions. Crop trims the edges; fit uses white padding.
Can a small picture become sharper at 300×300?
Resizing a smaller image can enlarge it but cannot recover missing detail. Start with a clear original whenever possible.
